it is impossible to predict how the choices we make will affect our reality

Welcome to reality 5561A.

Thousands of years ago, the Portal, a highly-advanced alien life-form capable of interstellar and interdimensional travel forever changed the future of this reality. A refugee from a home that no longer existed and the last of her kind, she fled through world upon world until she was too exhausted to continue. Not knowing what else to do, she settled on a moon, careful to avoid the primitive civilization developing on the planet below, and slept. When she fell asleep, she did not know how powerfully her dreams would affect the reality around her.

When she dreamed, her dreams were full of loneliness, isolation, abandonment, grief, fear, the feeling of not belonging. In her dreams, she longed for a family that no longer existed, or at least people who felt the way she did. Lost. Out of place. So she slept for thousands of years, and still sleeps, not knowing that some of the people she dreams of are real, or that when she dreams of gathering them close to her, she actually is. Plucking them gently out of their homes, she transports them to the moon where she sleeps.

For thousands of years she's been accidentally displacing people in her sleep, drawing them through herself to this warm, vibrant moon, while the planet below flourished into a high-tech, high-minded society. Now it's your turn to be drawn here through her dreams, and to make your own choices that will forever alter the future of reality 5561A.

Set on an uninhabited and lushly forested moon circling a planet, the Capital World, which boasts the quickly-advancing center of a bustling intergalactic civilization, characters are drawn in by mistake via the dreams of the sentient portal, which is currently in a deep sleep. Left to fend for themselves in rough jungle and forest terrain that shows signs of previous colonizations come and gone, with only the whimsy of the portal's dreams affecting their reality, remnants of magic and technology left over from previous inhabitants, and their own ingenuity to aid them in this alien environment.

The moon is richly populated with dangers in the form of predators, natural disasters, and environmental hazards, characters must fight to survive, find out what happened to the people who came before them, and find a way to get back to where they belong.

And in the meantime, their struggle to survive on this isolated little moon may end up changing the very future of the entire multiverse.

The Quarantine is a panfandom survival and exploration game with a distinct metaplot arc that will be heavily affected by gameplay. Characters will be able to make choices at crucial moments that will affect the overall tone and plot of the game as well as intergalactic politics leading up to the Great War that may end up decimating the population of this reality.

The game will feature a monthly rotation of three different types of events - survival or metaplot, dreamscape, and alternate world exploration. Characters will be called to survive through natural disasters, outbreaks, lack of resources, and a hostile environment via mod-posted mingles and sign-ups for missions that players can take on that allow characters to improve their chances of survival and quality of life. Every few months, characters may also be drawn by the slumbering portal into a shared dreamscape, where their fears, desires, memories, and secrets can be manifested into life and shared with other characters in the game. Finally, every three months, the Portal will pass out of a dream state and stabilize while connected to one particular other reality or planet, where characters can safely travel through to explore, and to loot for supplies or resources that might not otherwise be available on the moon.

This game is a quasi-prequel to the game [community profile] riverview, run by the same mod, but more focused on metaplot and mod-guided exploration, with many of the slice-of-life aspects removed. In-character choices can and will deeply affect the metaplot, and may end up changing the course of what was history in Riverview. While players who were in Riverview may recognize some familiar landmarks, natural events, and creatures, no knowledge of Riverview is needed to join The Quarantine.
